At all three of our clinics, we offer hundreds of different tests to help assess and monitor a wide variety of health conditions. Whether you’re looking for a routine health check or investigating specific symptoms, we’re here to help. Simply let us know which tests you require and we will do the rest.
How it works
If you require a swab, urine or stool test, please contact us by using the form at the bottom of this page or please feel free call us on 01202 761150 or email .
If you require blood tests, there are two options for having tests with Dorset Private GP. Please see the 2 options outlined below:
For children under 5, we can put you in touch with a mobile paediatric blood testing service. For children 5 and over, we can carry out blood testing in our Ashley Cross clinic. Please see the FAQs section for more information.
There are many Genetic Tests we can carry out and we will need to see a written request from a specialist to confirm the required test and the results will be sent to them for interpretation.
Option 1 – Patient Requested Blood Tests with use of our laboratory
This is for people who know which blood test(s) they want to have. You can simply provide the name of the test(s) and we can tell you how much the laboratory cost is and then book you in. There is no doctor’s consultation with this option, and you do not need to have seen one of our doctors beforehand.
For ages 12 and above: £40 phlebotomy fee PLUS the laboratory cost of the individual blood test(s).
For children aged 5 to 11: £95 phlebotomy fee PLUS the laboratory cost of the individual blood test(s).
For blood tests requiring centrifuging (most do not require this): £60 phlebotomy fee PLUS the laboratory cost of the individual blood test(s)
Important Information – please click here before you proceed with a booking
A doctor will not be involved in the process, so we will not be able to advise you what time the test should be taken or whether you need to fast or stop certain medications before the test. In addition to the phlebotomy fee for taking the blood, each blood test is priced individually depending on the laboratory cost for analysis. When the results are sent to us, we directly email them to you. A doctor will not see the results or comment on them. The test result document will show you the exact figure per test and where it falls within the normal limits/parameters. For children aged 5 to 11, the appointment is longer and a numbing cream needs to be applied by our nurse 30-minutes before the appointment. Our specialist doctors at our Ashley Cross Clinic carries out the paediatric phlebotomy and they are assisted by a nurse. If you would like doctor’s advice once you have received your test result, you can book a 20, 30 or 40-minute GP consultation. If you would like to know the cost of a specific blood test, please fill in the form at the bottom of this page or call us on 01202 761150 or email . We use a private laboratory in London to carry out all of our blood testing. All the samples we collect are couriered directly to the laboratory every evening. Most results are available the next day, but some tests have a longer analysis time.
Option 2 – Just a blood draw required
If you are having tests carried out by a different provider, then you can simply bring your blood test kit to our clinic for just the phlebotomy service. You will then take your completed blood kit with you.
For ages 12 and above: £40 phlebotomy fee only. This is for people who have their own testing kit and do not need the use of our laboratory.
For children aged 5 to 11: £95 phlebotomy fee only. This is for children who have their own testing kit and do not need the use of our laboratory.
For blood tests requiring centrifuging (most do not require this): £60 phlebotomy fee only. This is for people who have their own testing kit and do not need the use of our laboratory.
Important Information – please click here before you proceed with a booking
Please ensure that you open your blood test kit before you book an appointment as normally there are special instructions to follow for the tests. Some blood test kits require you to bring a frozen block for the return postage and some tests can only be carried out in the morning or on certain days of the week.
For children aged 5 to 11, the appointment is longer and a numbing cream needs to be applied by our nurse 30-minutes before the appointment. Our specialist doctors at our Ashley Cross clinic carry out the paediatric phlebotomy and they are assisted by a nurse.
You will be responsible for sending the blood kit off to its destination and they will provide you with the results. However, if you require any advice regarding the results, we can arrange an appointment with a GP. A 20-minute GP appointment is priced at £93.

Are you unsure which tests you need?
If you are unsure which tests you require, then we advise you have a 30 or 40-minute GP consultation. This means you can have a 20 to 30-minute consultation with the doctor to discuss your symptoms or concerns and then there is time to carry out any tests in the same appointment.
A 30-minute GP consultation is £139.50 and a 40-minute consultation is £186. Tests are priced individually according to the laboratory charge.
Please see our FAQs section below for a sample of some of our frequently requested tests and their prices.

How much do the tests cost?
The cost of each test is determined by what the laboratory charge us for carrying out their analysis. The laboratory can carry out hundreds of different tests and all tests can be carried out individually or tests can be grouped together. Tests which are grouped together are called “Profiles” and this can work out cheaper than having certain tests carried out on their own. Click here for examples of different test prices.

Do I need to be a registered patient?
As we are a private clinic, you do not need to be registered with us. You can simply book an appointment as and when you would like one. At the time of booking we take some contact information and then send you a form to complete. The form will ask you for some brief health and medical details and it will explain more about the appointment you have booked.
We store your contact information and test results on our secure system. We do not pass your information to any 3rd parties and we will not email you with any clinic updates unless you give your permission.
We are not linked to any NHS systems, so we do not have access to any of your NHS records. This also means we do not automatically send your NHS surgery any details about your visit to our clinic, (unless you request us to specifically let your surgery know).
You can book a one off appointment with us or use us on a regular basis. For blood testing appointments, we do not take payment until after the appointment.
How do I receive the test results?
If you have requested the tests yourself, we will email the results directly to you as soon as they come back to us from the laboratory. If you would prefer to not have them sent by email, we can arrange an alternative way.
You will be sent a laboratory document which shows your exact result as well as indicating where your result falls within normal parameters for your age and gender. If your result is abnormal, it will show in red.
You are free to do what you would like with the results. You can show your NHS doctor or seek advice from anywhere else. If you would like to see one of our doctors, you can make an appointment quickly and easily.
Where and how are the tests carried out?
Our clinics are based in Bournemouth, Ashley Cross in Poole and Poundbury in Dorchester.
Our Bournemouth clinic at 7 Poole Road, BH2 5QR is open Monday to Friday and we have blood test appointments available most days during the hours of 8.30am until 5.30pm.
Our Ashley Cross clinic at 41 Church Road, BH14 0NN is open Monday to Friday with appointments available during the hours of 9am and 5pm.
Our Dorchester Clinic at 14 Crown Gate, Poundbury, DT1 3EJ is open all day Tuesdays.
Appointments need to be made for blood and swab testing, but we can make arrangements to send you test kits for urine or stool testing. You can drop the completed sample back to our clinic so that it is taken by courier to the laboratory, or you can use the pre-paid packaging to post the sample to the lab.
Most blood samples which are couriered to the lab will have the test results sent back to us the next day. Some tests have a turn around time which is longer, but we will let you know this. Stool, urine and swab test results tend to take a bit longer than blood testing.
Some specialised tests such as genetic testing can take a few weeks to come back.
When you are booked in for a blood test, we advise you drink 1-2 litres of water before the appointment time. This makes it easier to carry out the blood test.
If you are nervous or a clinician has had difficulty taking your blood in the past, please let us know.
If you are nervous, you can have another person come in with you and we can make arrangements for you to lay down if you prefer.
If you are a person that is tricky to take blood from, please let us know so that we can ensure we select a clinician with experience in taking blood from different areas of the body or in different ways.
Can you carry out blood tests on children and babies?
We can carry out blood tests from 5 years old. Dr Lucy Freeman at our clinic in Ashley Cross can provide this service. For children aged 5 to 11, the doctor will be accompanied by a nurse and a numbing cream is applied before the test is carried out. Please note, the cream will need to be applied by the nurse 30-minutes before the blood test is carried out. The appointment is longer than our adult blood test appointments and is priced at £95. This includes the cost of the numbing cream. Please note, the cost of the appointment is the phlebotomy fee only and you will be charged the laboratory fees for the tests if you are using our laboratory service.
